Centurion Supports Decommissioning of 250km of Subsea Pipeline in Gulf of Thailand

Centurion is leading the safe and efficient decommissioning of 250km of ageing subsea pipeline in the Gulf of Thailand, using innovative cutting solutions and real-time insights to reduce costs, timelines, and environmental impact.

Decommissioning 250 kilometres of ageing subsea pipeline is no small feat—but Centurion are meeting the challenge head-on.

In the Gulf of Thailand, our team is supporting the safe and efficient removal of 64 subsea pipelines, many of which are encased in concrete weight coating. This large-scale decommissioning project requires precision, innovation, and real-time adaptability.

At the recent EXA – Energy Exchange Australia conference in Perth, our Subsea Services Manager Brett Phillips shared insights into how the project is progressing and what’s making it a success.

The Challenge

Removing 250km of pipelines—some up to 21km long and 18” in diameter—while managing variable conditions and meeting strict environmental compliance requirements.

The Approach

Our integrated solution includes:

• The S-Lay decommissioning method

• Tailored cutting technologies, including shears, chopsaws, and recovery tools

• Continuous refinements based on real-time insights

The Results So Far

• 56 pipelines removed in just 12 months

• Over 22,000 shear cuts and 5,000 chopsaw cuts completed

• Faster cutting times helping reduce overall project timeline and costs

Backed by global expertise, innovative solutions, and real-time learnings from this large-scale project, Centurion is ready to support the safe and efficient decommissioning of subsea assets worldwide.
