TRIAL - PFAS SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED IN TOUGH WASTEWATER
Centurion recently trialled Cembrane Silicon Carbide membrane on raw landfill leachate for Southeast Queensland Council Trade Waste Officers - no floc, no pre-treatment. Despite high PFAS (forever chemicals), oils, organics and heavy metals, we saw a significant reduction in PFAS, a 93% drop in COD, 80-90% fall in heavy metals, and major reductions in TSS, VSS, oil and grease - using just 0.069 m² of membrane.

Centurion recently demonstrated the power of Cembrane Silicon Carbide membranes on raw landfill leachate in a live trial for Southeast Queensland Council Trade Waste Officers.
This tough wastewater was loaded with PFAS (Forever Chemicals), organics, fats, oils and heavy metals, and treated without floc or pre-treatment.
The membrane, embedded with fine-grade powdered activated carbon (PAC), delivered impressive results:
- PFAS - significantly reduced
- COD - 93% reduction
- Heavy metals - 80–90% reduction
- TSS, VSS, oil & grease - major reductions
- All achieved with just 0.069 m² of membrane area.
“The results would indicate an impressive pre-treatment system/media, especially considering the tiny size of the media used in the test,” said one Trade Waste Source Control Officer.
It proves PFAS can be effectively reduced in challenging conditions. With simple pre-treatment, results are likely to improve even further.
