New Water Treatment Project Underway in Jurien Bay
Centurion is delivering transportable electro-chlorination and polymer batching modules for a new Jurien Bay water treatment plant, providing a safer, on-site chlorine solution to supply up to 1 ML per day of potable water for around 1,600 people.
The project involves the supply of transportable electro-chlorination and polymer batching modules, purpose-designed for regional operation and ease of deployment. These modular systems will form a key part of the town’s future potable water infrastructure.
Electro-chlorination was selected as a safer and more practical solution for a regional community. The system produces low-strength chlorine at a concentration of around 0.6 per cent on site, using salt and DC electricity. This approach means operators handle bags of salt rather than higher-risk chlorine gas or 12.5 per cent sodium hypochlorite, significantly reducing handling and safety risks.
Producing chlorine on site also removes the need to transport bulk chemicals over long distances, making the solution particularly well suited to regional and remote locations where logistics and safety are critical considerations.
Once complete, the new treatment plant will supply potable drinking water to approximately 1,600 people in Jurien Bay, with a treatment capacity of up to one megalitre per day. The project will help support the town’s long-term water security and growing community needs.
It’s a practical, safety-focused approach to water treatment for regional Western Australia, and while the beach may be close by, the focus is firmly on delivering reliable infrastructure that works for the long term.
