Supporting Singapore’s Deep Tunnel Sewerage System with a 50-tonne winch & HPU

Centurion has completed its third tunnel boring machine (TBM) removal in Singapore in two years, supplying a 50-tonne hydraulic winch, a Hydraulic Power Unit and stand, and technical support to safely extract a TBM over 200 metres in tight underground conditions on the Deep Tunnel Sewerage System project.

Centurion has successfully completed another tunnel boring machine (TBM) removal in Singapore, supporting ongoing works on the Deep Tunnel Sewerage System (DTSS), one of Singapore's most critical pieces of long-term infrastructure.

The scope involved the controlled removal of a TBM from an underground tunnel, with the machine required to be pulled back more than 200 metres in extremely confined conditions. Working deep below ground meant space was limited and tolerances were tight, making careful planning and the right equipment essential from the outset.

For this project, Centurion supplied a 50-tonne hydraulic winch, along with a hydraulic power unit (HPU), control stand and on-site technical support. The system was configured with the appropriate wire rope and set-up to safely manage the demanding load over distance, while operating within the constraints of the underground environment.

This project marks Centurion’s third TBM removal in Singapore in the past two years, demonstrating the adaptability of its lifting and pulling solutions across a wide range of environments, from offshore and subsea projects to onshore and underground works.

With tunnelling activity continuing across Singapore as part of major infrastructure upgrades, Centurion is proud to support project teams with practical, fit-for-purpose equipment and technical expertise, helping deliver complex works safely and efficiently where space, access and accuracy matter most.
